All sorts of wolves ranging from the stocky dire wolf to the fox-like Ethiopian wolf and even the long legged Maned wolf inhabit the lands of Wolf's Requiem. Although thought to be dead, they are slowly making their way back home...
Lifespan: 8-14 years
Most wolves live longer than earlier generations of wolves, perhaps due to the fact that they had adapted to harsh conditions before the world began to heal.
Appearance:
Wolves are rather canine-like in appearance with strong limbs and narrow chests. They have fur that suits them for whatever climate they live in. Their pelts range from many colors, such as many different shades of blacks, white, grays, browns and even yellow.
Size:
Wolves can reach 2-4 feet at the shoulder and can weigh anywhere from 55-180 lbs. Most wolves are 5-6 feet from the tip of their nose to the end of their tail.
Temperament:
Although the temperant does not depend on the species, it still varies quite a bit among wolves. Most of them are loyal pack animals who like to live in groups while others are solitary loners.
Diet:
Wolves will typically hunt cattle, elk, caribou, deer and sometimes smaller animals. Some wolves who like to swim will include a lot of fish and water dwelling animals in their diet.
Habitat:
The majority of wolves like to live near forests and sometimes mountains, but some elemental wolves prefer to live in a place that corresponds with the element they can control.
Reproduction:
Wolves become sexually mature at three years of age. They will find a mate around this time and they will typically mate for life. Wolves mate in the winter and give birth in the spring to a litter of 1-4 cubs. Although they could mate each year if they wish, most wolf pairs will not mate as often as this.
Magical Abilities:
Magic isn't as common with wolves as it is dragons. Some wolves are elementals, like dragons, while this is the most common magic. The gift of the Sight (communicating with birds, seeing the past, present and future, etc,) is an incredibly rare power. Only a few select wolves have this power, both a blessing and a curse.
